Bioprime

Cabopol’s new R&D initiative focuses on the development and design of an innovative biodegradable polymer compound suitable for home composting, with high temperature resistance and excellent barrier properties (notably against oxygen and water vapor). To promote its sustainability, this innovative product is intended to be of renewable origin (based on polylactic acid – “PLA”).

This will be a completely innovative solution in the global market, aiming to develop a versatile and scalable solution that allows its application in the manufacture of rigid and flexible packaging across different sectors.

The development of this project will also have a highly positive environmental impact, as it will enable the creation of a sustainable solution — particularly important in all sectors, but especially in the hot-filled products market, which is characterized by high plastic waste that takes many years to degrade in nature.

With this product, Cabopol will offer the market a more sustainable solution than existing ones (renewable source and home compostable) while simultaneously providing significantly superior technical properties compared to alternative compounds, particularly in terms of mechanical strength, thermal resistance, processability, flexibility, and barrier properties.

Promising results have been achieved in terms of biodegradability, opening new horizons for the applicability of this technology in the packaging sector.
